Midnight Moments: 12.Fear
Mr. M always had a fear of meeting new people. He never did like it when he had no idea what to say. It seemed preposterous to him that he had devoted much of his life to writing prose and scenarios on paper, only to be left destitute during real life. As such, if he could save himself the hassle of actually being in that situation, there would be no need to actually feel that tightness in his mind.
So when he had to meet this editor that would be working with him, there was generally a soft cheer of unenthusiasm around him.
Meeting the lady called Penny once was quite enough for him. She would not stop going over how much she thought that his work was actually really great. He never was one to accept praise. Instead, he would move on and talk about the editing work he would be doing for the next draft. She looked so intently when he spoke that he was sure that every single cell in her brain had dropped their current work just so she could fully focus.
He just couldn't bear with all this intensity.
"Oh dear, where are my manners. I should have made you something to drink. How does tea sound? Why not have some biscuits too" Anything so he could get away from her focus.
