Midnight Moments: 17.Soft
Penny was dropping by Mr. M's house with the first printed final manuscript of his novel. The printers had done their job well, and if there was nothing to correct anymore, this would be an exact copy of what everyone else would read too.
At the end of their discussion and looking through, there was nothing left to change. Making a short note, Penny gave the first copy to Mr. M. He didn't seem really stuffed about getting his first book publish. Penny was the one supplying all the energy in this relationship, which she converted from her excitement of getting this whole book gotten. Somehow, the conversion of energy did not effectively transfer over to the author himself. Instead, there was a quiet acceptance that his book would be published in a matter of weeks. How curious indeed.
So by the time Penny had finished all the business in The Mr. M household, Mrs. M had gotten ready to leave the house. Apparently she was going to the local supermarket to purchase some groceries for the week's supply of food. Mrs. M had taken a liking to this young girl Penny as she hoped the enthusiasm of youth would be rubbed back into the old bones of Mr. M.
That's how the three of them ended up walking to the supermarket together. Mr. M was quiet all the while and Mrs. M provided much of the social development between Penny and the couple. Penny didn't really mind but hoped she could glean a bit more information about the man himself.
Penny finished her shopping earlier than Mrs. M who loved to take her time. The onions were hard to pick for her as always.
Coming out with her purchased items, Penny noticed Mr. M sitting at a bench right outside the supermarket in the mall. She looked around and noticed an ice-cream stall just right beside the entrance. Penny gave it a thought and carried over two cones of soft-serve ice cream. Mr. M didn't say anything when Penny gave him a cone and sat right beside him.
And over that soft-serve, they connected like never had they before.
